How to choose promotional products people will use

A useful brief starts with the recipient, the occasion and the role your gift needs to play.

Start with the audience

Who will receive the product, and where will they use it? Office teams might use a notebook, bottle or charging accessory. Exhibition visitors may appreciate something light enough to carry. A client gift can be more substantial, but should still fit the recipient’s routine.

Give the product a clear purpose

A giveaway can help start a conversation, a welcome pack can introduce a team and a thank-you gift can show appreciation. Choose one purpose first, then use it to judge the shortlist.

Set a complete budget

Allow for the item, branding, setup, delivery and VAT. A lower blank-product cost does not always mean a lower finished-order cost. Ask for a quote based on your actual quantities and print positions.

Check the practical detail

Look at material, dimensions, colour and care instructions. For technology, check compatibility. For food and drink items, check intended use. For children’s products, review suitability and warnings.

Keep the artwork readable

Small print areas may need a simplified logo. Give us your best artwork file and explain any brand colours or minimum-size rules. Approve the final proof before production.
